Variations in the Beer Drinking Game: Wizard Staff

Drinking of beer amongst friends is considered a form of socializing and there are frequent bouts of different kinds of challenges among lovers of beer in all parts of the world. This has given way to evolution of many funny contests and games, and Wizard Staffs one of the most popular of these games. Thos who have earlier played a different version of the game know what exactly a Wizard’s staff is but to those who haven’t, knowing that beer cans are stuck together using duct tapes and the player who has the longest staff made of beer cans is the winner, comes as a pleasant news.

To begin with, the objective of all beer drinking games is to find the winner who consumes the highest number of beer cans. However, there are minor variations in rules added by the players and such games get known by a different name. The name Wizard Staff comes from the practice of adding up finished cans of beer by using duct tape which makes the staff longer with every level and thus the winner is the last man standing having the longest staff in his hand. In between levels, players become disqualified when they puke or pass out. The more the number of players, the more is fun and merriment. Beer pong is another drinking game which is also very popular though it requires skills of throwing plastic balls with the intent of landing them in glasses full of beers set across the table. The biggest variation of the game is that it can be played with any number of players (minimum 2 to find a winner), though the higher the number of players, the more is the funs and frolic. In fact, having a judge who remains dry is also very important as he can give his decision on disqualification of players without any bias.

In every circle of friends, there are booze lovers and they drink beer as if they are drinking water. To make the game difficult for such tankers, boss fights are introduced after every 2^nd (or 3^rd) level. This boss is nothing but a hard alcoholic beverage such as rum, whiskey, or vodka. The attempt is to make a few players out in the early rounds and let the tankers fight it out past 7^th or 8^th levels.

One variation where the first to reach 10^th level is called white wizard is also becoming popular.  This white wizard is given a chance to make a new rule in the game. Other players, when they reach level 10, are given a chance to fight off with the incumbent. In this fight, the player who survives with his staff is chosen as the new white wizard. This si one variation that makes players use duct tape on their beer cans more securely. To see players fight it out with their staffs is indeed a very interesting variation of the game.
